BACKGROUND

The responsibilities of the Pharmacy Services Program are to ensure that medications provided are of quality, safe, effective as well as affordable, easily attainable and reasonably sufficient; so that they can be used therapeutically and are effective in improving the public’s health and quality of life.

Division of Pharmacy Services, Sarawak Health State Department consists of:
  • Pharmacy Management
The Pharmacy Program plays 3 main roles, namely:

i. Directly contribute to the maintenance of health by establishing and implementing a registration system for pharmaceutical and healthcare products besides controlling the pharmaceutical industry to ensure high quality medications in the country.

ii.Protect consumers from dangerous medications, deceiving pharmaceutical advertisements and irresponsible medical practice through enforcement acts and laws, wherever applicable.

iii.Optimize medication therapy and efficient pharmaceutical health services, by ensuring efficient process of selection, procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals, rational drug use, and cost-effectiveness through professional pharmacy services and up-to-date clinical pharmacy services.

The State Pharmacy Program is headed by a Deputy Health State Director (Pharmacy) and assisted by a Deputy Pharmacy Director (Pharmacy Practice and Development) and Deputy Pharmacy Director (Pharmacy Enforcement).

The Headquarters office of the State Pharmacy Services Division is located in the same building as the Headquarters office of the Sarawak State Health Department.

 

OBJECTIVES OF PHARMACY SERVICES:

To supply pharmaceutical services that is unprecedented, and to promote the right use of medicine.
