INTRODUCTION

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology provide its expertise in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It is also a secondary referral centre for cases of Maternal Health Clinic and Children in the district of Miri, Hospital Lawas, Limbang, Marudi and Bintulu. It also became a centre of training for community nurses trainees and graduate medical officer. Medical officers and specialists visits to the district hospital every 2 months for the patient in the rural areas. Delivery room has 10 beds and 2 beds created as HDU/PE beds. Maternity Ward, the Maternity 1 & 2 located in Ward 9 & 10 with a total of 56 beds. Gynaecology Ward located in Ward 5 with 14 beds. Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialists Clinic located in Block 5 with 5 rooms and 1 ultrasound examination room.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Provide expertise in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to the community in the Northern Zone, Sarawak.
  2. Provide training to health personnel in the Northern Region of Sarawak.

SERVICES PROVIDED

Obstetrics & Gynaecology Specialist Clinic:

  1. Obstetrics and Gynaecology Accepting patients referred by appointment
  2. Gynaecology Clinic provides specialist services in the case of general gynaecology , infertility cases , case gynae – oncology, uro- gynaecology cases and cases of menopause
  3. Antenatal clinic provides specialist services for referred antenatal cases
  4. Postnatal clinic treating postnatal follow-up of high-risk cases>
  5. Provides Pre- Pregnancy and Family Planning Clinic
  6. Treating antenatal patients who have a medical problem with General Physicians via Combine Clinic held once a month
  7. Provides Detail Scan for antenatal patients at risk

Maternity Ward:

  1. Screening all incoming patients over 24 weeks pregnant
  2. Providing birth to all pregnant
  3. Ensuring mothers start breastfeeding early within one hour after birth
  4. Care for patients with problems like Pre – eclampsia / eclampsia , PPH , APH , etc. Treatened Premature Labour
  5. Providing Epidural and Entonox services during childbirth

Maternity Ward:

  1. Provide patient care in the antenatal and postnatal patients and their baby
  2. Promote breastfeeding and infant health care

Gynaecology Ward:

  1. Providing care to gynaecology patients
  2. Gynae-oncology services provided by visiting specialist for patients from the Northern Region of Sarawak
  3. Provide chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients under the supervision of gynae-oncology specialist
  4. Encourage parents to bring a nursing baby along during hospitalization or surgery

Early Assessment Pregnancy Unit (EPAU):

  1. Provides outpatient treatment for patients with problems that have just conceived.

Daycare Services:

  1. Providing services for the O & G procedure on an outpatient basis . Examples of the procedure are as blood pressure monitoring , monitoring of BSP , CTG , Doppler , ECV and TVS

Specialist treatment to District Hospital and Health Clinics

  1. Provide specialist service in the field of O & G to Lawas and Marudi Hospital and Health clinics in Batu Niah.
