The Special Care Nursery was opened on 15<sup>th<\/sup> February 2013 and was located at Level 1 of M5 Block.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">SCOPE OF SERVICES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SCN is designed for delivery of level II &amp; level III care to sick infants:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b><\/b><strong><b>Level II(a) (Low Dependency) Special Care beds:<\/b><\/strong><strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/strong>For convalescent preterm neonates, or neonates requiring observation for transient problems, phototherapy, investigatory procedures and frequent feeding<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong><b>Level II(b) (High Dependency) Special Care beds:<\/b><\/strong><strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/strong>For neonates requiring peripheral intravenous therapy, simplified cardiorespiratory monitoring, apnoea monitoring, oxygen not usually in excess of 40%, chronic oxygen dependency and surgical nursing<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong><b>Level III(a) (Low Dependency) Intensive Care beds:<\/b><\/strong><strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/strong>For neonates requiring CPAP, continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring, intra arterial\u00a0blood pressure monitoring, parenteral nutrition, central venous \u00a0\u00a0catheterisation, oxygen therapy in excess of 40%, acute surgical nursing<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong><b>Level III(b) (High dependency) Intensive Care beds:<\/b><\/strong><strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/strong>For neonates requiring endotracheal intubation for assisted ventilation, intra arterial blood pressure monitoring, continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring, parenteral nutrition, central venous catheterisation, transcutaneous \u00a0blood gas and oxygen saturation monitoring and neonates requiring stabilisation \u00a0following major surgery.<\/li>\n<li>Rooming-in facilities for mothers are provided in SCN.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting breastfeeding in accordance to Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative \u00a0(BFHI).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>OPERATIONAL HOURS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Providing <strong>24-hour<\/strong> healthcare services to patients<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INTRODUCTION Special Care Nursery (SCN) is a multidisciplinary unit covering all specialties in the hospital and accepts patients up to Day 28 of life from A&amp;E, SCN ward, labour room and operating theatres from within the hospital and other hospitals within the district.
