Pengenalan
Jabatan Radiologi sentiasa berusaha untuk memberi perkhidmatan radiologi yang bernilai diagnostik, berkualiti, selamat, berorientasikan pesakit, efisien, kos efektif dan mengamalkan perlindungan radiasi berdasarkan Prinsip ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) kepada pelanggan dan kakitangan.
Terletak di Tingkat 2, Bangunan Pesakit Dalam dan di ETD, perkhidmatan yang disediakan adalah merangkumi perkhidmatan perkhidmatan diagnostik, terapeutik dan interventional. Pemprosesan imej/ filem menggunakan sistem radiografi berkomputer (computered radiografi) dan imej disimpan dalam Picture Archiving Information System (PACS) serta pengurusan maklumat pesakit secara hybrid iaitu secara manual dan menggunakan RIS.
Jabatan ini sentiasa komited untuk memberi perkhidmatan 24 jam kepada pesakit terutamanya bagi kes-kes kecemasan yang memerlukan perawatan segera dan kritikal. Disamping itu, jabatan ini juga menerima pelatih-pelatih untuk menjalani latihan teknikal bidang berkaitan radiologi dari berbagai-bagai kolej yang diluluskan oleh Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia.

- Memberikan perkhidmatan pengimejan diagnostik, terapeutik dan interventional yang sesuai, tepat, selamat dan bermutu kepada pesakit.
- Mengoptimumkan penggunaan sumber-sumber untuk mengurangkan pembaziran serta mempraktikkan konsep ‘Lean Healthcare’.
- Meminimakan bahaya radiasi kepada pesakit, pekerja sinaran, kakitangan hospital dan orang awam dengan mengamalkan tiga prinsip perlindungan sinaran dan konsep ALARA.

Jabatan Patologi
Introduction
Pathology Department was built in 1981 and started operations on 9 September 1982. Pathology department started to decant to the new laboratory in the new Day Care Centre (DCC) building from 14 December 2020 and completed the decanting process in February 2021. Department of Pathology is a reference laboratory for the state of Sarawak and a training facility for students from Institutions of Higher Learning.
Pathology Department offers consultative and diagnostic services for Biochemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Cytology and Haematology to the clinical services in the Sarawak General Hospital and all government hospitals and polyclinics in the state.
Objective
- To provide accurate and timely medical test results for clinical management of patients.
- To ensure the standard of laboratory services satisfies the expectations of customers and by Malaysian or international standards.
- To be professional, prioritizing quality of examination and compliance with the quality management system at all times.

Jabatan Perubatan Nuklear
Introduction
Nuclear medicine is a specialized medical branch that uses radio-pharmaceuticals to diagnose or treat diseases. Since its establishment in 1985, the Nuclear Medicine Department, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) is operating at two sites: Diagnostic Scan, Pusat Jantung Sarawak (PJS) and Nuclear Medicine Treatment Centre & Ward SGH. The department currently has two SPECT-CTs for diagnostic scanning which are Siemens Intevo Bold and GE SPECT-CT Discovery 670 Pro at Pusat Jantung Sarawak.

- Safe, effective, efficient and comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services that is of high quality, technologically appropriate and consumer friendly which shall be delivered by qualified nuclear medicine personnel.

Jabatan Perkhidmatan Transfusi dan Bank Darah
Introduction
Department of Transfusion Service and Blood Bank also known as Jabatan Perkhidmatan Transfusi dan Bank Darah located in the Day Care Center (DCC) Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, 93586 Kuching, Sarawak. It operates and functions as the State blood bank and the hospital blood bank. A transfusion medicine specialist heads the organization.
Department Objectives
- Establish and maintain a pool of safe blood donors.
- To provide safe blood and blood components, adequate and appropriate through the screening procedures and storage according to international standards.
- Ensure optimal patient care through the use of appropriate blood and blood products.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships through training, research and development in line with the needs of practice and the latest technology in the latest medical field.
Services provided
The service is operating at two site 1 at DCC and another 1 at Blok Kenyalang. The one at DCC are housed for blood donation, productions, donor group testing, blood donor screening by serology and group screen & hold, crossmatch, antenatal testing, Direct Coomb testing and antibody identification and transfusion reaction investigation. The one at Blok Kenyalang is for blood screening by molecular NAT testing. Blood donation center has 11 beds with average workload about 40 donors daily.
Jabatan Perubatan Forensik
Introduction
Forensic Medicine Department of Sarawak General Hospital at the beginning of its establishment in 1969 was known as the morgue; which was originally placed as one unit under the Department of Pathology.
Forensic Medicine Department of Sarawak General Hospital was officially separated from the Department of Pathology on 11th of April 2014. The Department is housed in a new two-story building, the ground floor which consists of postmortem examination suites and clinical examination room. The upper level caters for a management office and a laboratory. The department has been equipped with strict security system in order to protect the confidentiality and safety of all medico legal cases.
The purpose and goals of the establishment of the Forensic Medicine Department of Sarawak General Hospital is in line with the establishment of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, which is to improve the quality of forensic medicine services in the state of Sarawak as a whole.
Department Objectives
The core objective at Forensic Medicine Department, Sarawak General Hospital is to provide Forensic Medicine Services, a specialized field in medicine that utilizes the principles of medicine and medical sciences in assisting legal authorities in the adjudication of justice in accordance with requirements of the Laws of Malaysia and in compliance with the current quality standard.
Services Provided
The services provided by Forensic Medicine Department, Sarawak General Hospital includes Forensic Pathology, Clinical Forensic Medicine, and Forensic Science Services.
The Forensic Pathology covers the management of deaths inside and outside the hospital, as well as conducting forensic postmortem examinations to provide assistance in medicolegal inquiries of death. In addition, the postmortem reports are managed with a secured and systematic filing system in this department.
The Clinical Forensic Medicine plays an important role inclusive of consultation in management of forensic specimens to ensure its compliance with principles of chain of custody. Apart from that, consultation is also provided in the examination of patient involving in police cases and cases referred from One Stop Crisis Center (OSCC).
The Forensic Science Service provides lab services in management of forensic histopathology samples, forensic entomology samples, as well as forensic anthropology cases.
Last but not least, the team in Forensic Medicine Department, Sarawak General Hospital is actively involved in research and publications.
Jabatan Farmasi
Introduction
The Pharmacy Department of Sarawak General Hospital is staffed by 179 permanent personnel of various grades, including pharmacists, pharmacist assistants, administrative assistants, health medical assistants (PPK) and general workers, as well as contract pharmacists. There are 6 functional sections in the department, namely Logistic Pharmacy, In-patient Pharmacy, Out-patient Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, Production Pharmacy and Pharmacy Resources and Information. There are also 2 units directly under the Department, namely Traditional & Complementary Medicines (TCM) and Nuclear Pharmacy.

- Ensure efficient pharmaceutical procurement, storage and management.
- Compound pharmaceutical products that are of high quality and meeting clients’ needs.
- Provide pharmaceutical care and pharmacy services that are patient-centred and consistent with client charter.
- Ensure sufficient opportunities for all pharmacy staff to receive continuous education.

Services Provided
The Pharmacy Department, SGH had been operating 24 hours per day since 2010, with after office hour services mainly catered by ETD Pharmacy. Services provided include ambulatory pharmacy services, medication therapy and adherence clinics, inpatient pharmacy services, sterile production (total parenteral nutrition and cytotoxic drug reconstitution), non-sterile production and pre-packing, ward pharmacy services, clinical pharmacokinetic services, logistic pharmacy services, pharmacy resources and information, traditional & complementary medicines and nuclear pharmacy.

Unit Fisioterapi
Introduction
The physiotherapy services in Sarawak General Hospital were introduced in the 60s where the provision of service was limited to inpatients only. As the years continued to 1975, the progress in human resource allowed outpatient services to be added. By 1994, the physiotherapy unit has extended its operating hours to include schedules to be carried out during the weekend and public holidays. The development of the profession grew with bigger workforce and programs in tandem with the needs of community along with its continuous contribution towards advancement in healthcare.
The location of physiotherapy unit has shifted once since its inception. The first set up was at the current kitchen area but was shifted to the level 2, specialist clinic once the building specialist block was completed. Although the venue was of inconvenience to patient due to the dependence of elevator, time along with the good support service of the hospital, the adaptation was without a hitch.
21st century saw an increase of programs being offered ranging from the disciplines of musculoskeletal to women’s and men’s health. This was also the first time that 2 specialized programs were separated from the State Hospital in order to meet the needs of specialized hospitals like Pusat Jantung Sarawak where programs of cardiac rehabilitation along with geriatrics physiotherapy were transferred. Physiotherapy profession continues to stay relevant in current times and is in line with the trend of evidence based practice.

Unit Pemulihan Carakerja
Introduction
Occupational Therapy Unit started its services in mid-1980 and has offered a service to all people around Kuching since then. At that time, the services were first provided for physical disable clients only. It was located at the old block where the Dietetic and Serving Unit are operating now. The Occupational Therapy Unit then moved to Level 2, Pintu M, Specialist Clinic Block in 1990’s.
Started in 2000, the unit expend the services in Psychiatric setting (acute and chronic care) for both adult & children (Occupational Therapy extension unit with 3 Occupational Therapists managing the services).
Department Objectives
- To ensure that our clients have a safe, accurate and effective Occupational Therapy services.
- Provides rehabilitation services to enable individuals / groups to become self-independent in their daily lives activities.
- Provides rehabilitation treatment in support of others multidisciplinary.
Services Provided
Occupational Therapy Unit provides physical and psychiatric rehabilitation services that include both for patient in the ward and out patients referred. The tools used for the assessment and treatment to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of physical, mental or cognitive disorder to optimum level of independence living skills.
Our rehabilitation activities focus on their work by identifying and eliminating environment barriers to independence and participation in daily activities. Our interventions also focus on adapting the environment, modifying the task, provide aids and adaptations equipment, teaching the skill and educating the client and family members and career in order to increase participation in their performance of daily activities (ADL) and Instrumental Activity of Daily Living(IADL).
Jabatan Perkhidmatan Kerja Sosial Perubatan
Introduction
The Medical Social Work Department, formerly known as the Almoner Department, was formed in January 1, 1960 vide Director of Medical Service Circular 1/1960. Initially, the department was run by the expatriates. After that, one Medical Social Worker was recruited to provide the medical social work services for the whole hospital until 1996. Nowadays, we have nine Medical Social Workers in Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching.
Objectives
To contribute to the clients care by providing the healthcare personnel involved with an understanding of the psychological, social, emotional, behavioural and economics situation of clients and their families in order to enable a holistic approach to treatment and rehabilitation.
Services Provided
- Assist in enabling clients to return to the community once treatment is completed.
- Emotional support to aid in treatment and enhance recovery.
- Practical assistance to empower clients to achieve optimal functioning.
- Home visits to observe and assess client’s and family actual needs.
- Encourage and assist the community in organizing community projects that benefit the target group.
Jabatan Dietetik dan Sajian
Introduction
Dietetics and Food Service Department is responsible for providing clinical dietetics, food service and health promotion to help the treatment of patients in accordance with the vision and mission of the hospital and the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Department Objectives
- To ensure Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for oral diet and nutrition support is delivered to patients referred to dietitians.
- To ensure normal and therapeutic diets delivered to in-patients, day care patients, mother accompanying child (MAC) and patients in observation wards are prepared based on orders.
- To ensure food are prepared for doctors-on-call and paramedics according to entitlement.
- To supervise trainings for practical food service students and internship dietetics clinical students from local institutions.
- To encourage participation in research and quality assurance study for catering and clinical/community dietetics.
Service Provided
Clinical Dietetic Service
Clinical dietetic services are provided for in- and out-patients based on doctors’ referral. Dietitians are also involved in community services, talks, workshops and seminars to meet the requirements of different individuals or companies.
Food Service
Catering service is mainly provided for in-patients. Our department serves a large number of normal diet and therapeutic to in-patients. Food will be served based on ward diet order, regulation and patients entitlement.
Jabatan Rehabilitasi
Introduction
Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Sarawak General Hospital provides rehabilitation medical services to patients who suffer from physical disabilities. Our services include Neurological Rehabilitation, Amputee Rehabilitation, Spinal Rehabilitation, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Paediatric Rehabilitation and Critical Care Rehabilitation.
Objectives
- To improve quality of life for patients who suffer from physical disabilities
- To reduce the incidence of medical complications among patients who receive rehabilitation medicine treatment
- To enhance the functioning of rehabilitation medicine patients in order to facilitate the reintegration into community with full potential
- To manage medical and psycho-social issues among rehabilitation medicine patients
- To raise public awareness about diseases associated disability issues
- To increase the number of medical and allied health professionals trained in the management of patients with disabilities.
Services Provided
- Rehabilitation medicine management of hospitalized patients suffering from neurological diseases, spinal cord injury, amputation, cardiac diseases and others.
- Provide inpatient rehabilitation medicine services at Rehabilitation Medicine Ward and consultation to other departments in the hospital for rehabilitation medicine treatment.
- Provide outpatient rehabilitation medicine services at Rehabilitation Medicine Clinic.
- Assist patients in the application of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, prosthesis, suction machine, ripple mattress and others.
- Assist patients to be registered as “Persons with Disabilities” by Social Welfare Department.
- Conduct “Family Conference” to discuss the case with the patient’s family and provide health-related education.
- Visiting Clinic at Sarawak Heart Center for Cardiac Rehabilitation Services.
- Visiting services to major hospitals in Sarawak State which do not have rehabilitation physician.
- Consultation regarding rehabilitation treatment for non-government organizations which work closely for people with disabilities.
- Community Outreach Program to provide rehabilitation health screening program at Community Based Rehabilitation Centers around Kuching area.
- Collaboration with Social Security Organization (SOCSO) for Return to Work Program.
